ASrIA 2005 Projects
For details on projects completed last year, see
ASrIA in
review.
In 2005 ASrIA will focus on the following activities:
Events: We participate in many kinds of events,
as well as organising our own. Please refer to the home
page or ASrIA Events for details.
For most events, we collaborate with partner organizations and ASrIA members.
Members benefit from special ASrIA briefings on many events. If you are a member
please refer to the briefings calendar in the Members
Only area of the website.
Research: ASrIA provides essential research
and analysis on specific topics related to SRI in Asia. We aim to highlight
issues and opportunities related to SRI and to foster debate and support for
SRI in the region. Please refer to Publications
for the latest reports.
Awareness Raising: As always the website is
a priority area for ASrIA. We continue to work on upgrading the content and
information flow through the site. Increasing information in different Asian
languages is also critical. ASrIA’s free e-bulletin
provides an essential source of news about sustainable finance around the Asian
region.
Training: ASrIA has identified a strong need
for training and skills development for sustainable finance. In 2004, ASrIA
developed a range of training modules and plans to develop these further to
extend services over the coming year. See Training
for more details.

This table summarises the status of ASrIA research projects this year.

| SRI Sector Research |
In 2H ASrIA will launch
a series of sector-based reports to evaluate the sustainability risks
in Asia at the sector level. The goal is to draw clear links between
the most heavily held Asian sectors and stocks and the questions that
SRI investors should be asking of Asian companies. |
|
| Asian Carbon Disclosure Project |
Climate change is forecast to have
severe consequences for much of Asia. Consequently, we are looking at
ways to extend the work of the highly successful Carbon Disclosure Project
cdproject.net by
broadening the range of Asian companies which are asked to disclose
their carbon emissions, many for the first time. A more comprehensive
response from Asian corporations, will help to reduce risks and maximise
the up-take of emerging clean energy opportunities. |
Sponsors Invited |
| The Overtime Project |
A report building on Impactt’s
factory-level data on new strategies for reducing overtime and increasing
productivity. What this means for assessing the investment performance
of supply chain companies. |
|
| Labor and Environmental Disclosures in HK IPOs |
ASrIA has reviewed a sample
of prospectuses from 2004 supply chain IPOs, the report will highlight
disclosure gaps and what this means for investors. |

| ISO14000 Project |
The international environmental management standard ISO
14001 is increasingly being adopted by organisations worldwide. Not surprisingly
it is often quoted by companies as evidence of good environmental performance
e.g. in public offering documents and environmental reports. However is
a simple statement enough to provide assurance about potential environmental
risks? For the shrewd investor this paper recommends that ISO 14001 should
be the starting point for investor analysis and not the end point. |
