The ASrIA team extends our warm seasons greetings to all our members and subscribers. We are also pleased to announce the appointment at our recent AGM of Rajesh Srivastava, Managing Director and Head of Corporate and Commercial Banking at Rabo India Finance Limited, as the new Chair of ASrIA (Asian News 1). Commenting on the appointment, ASrIA's former Chair Tessa Tennant said "In the interests of good governance it was time for a new Chair and we are delighted that Rajesh has accepted our invitation. His involvement will improve our understanding of Southern Asian issues, and more broadly in private equity and the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change. ASrIA has updated the Climate Change portal on our website, based on the strong feedback we have received (Asian News 2) and we have also completed a successful Toxics Roadshow around the region (Asian News 4) to raise awareness among investors of this critical ESG related issue. The end of the year has been marked by the increasing sense of urgency and interest around climate change issues, mitigation strategies and the investment challenges and opportunities which this affords. ASrIA will continue to remain focused on these issues in the coming year as well as on other material ESG areas such as toxics, water and labour issues, as well as on critical themes such as transparency and disclosure. Upcoming conferences which ASrIA is supporting include the following: Islamic Finance Asia, February 2007 (Conferences & Events 9), Corporate Social Responsibility: A Business Perspective, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur in March 2007 (Conferences & Events 5), the China Water Congress 2007 in Beijing, April 2007 (Conferences & Events 2) and the China Power & Alternative Energy Summit in Beijing, May 2007 (Conferences & Events 1).
