EDITORIAL

ASrIA launched, jointly with the Asian Development Bank, a major report, ‘The Time to Lead Is Now, the Adoption of ESG Analysis by Asian Government Pension Funds’. The report has attracted significant interest with over 8,400 downloads registered in July. ASrIA also held two successful briefings events, with presentations by ASrIA Member SAM Sustainable Asset Management. Thanks to our members Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC for hosting these events.

Two themes emerging are a continued focus on getting improved disclosure from corporates, and an ongoing interest in how SRI investment is weathering the financial crisis. ASrIA’s monitoring of SRI funds in Asia indicates that the numbers of SRI related products available in Asian markets is continuing to grow. Of particular note was the news that the UNPRI is toughening the criteria for its signatories and dropping six members who have failed to comply with reporting requirements.

Upcoming events of note, which ASrIA is either organizing or supporting, include:

Green Investments Summit 2009, Singapore, 16-17 September
ASrIA Carbon Disclosure Project, Asia Ex-Japan Report Launch, Hong Kong, 23 September
China Solid Waste Management Summit 2009, Shanghai, 24-25 September
