Event Summary

The inaugural ASrIA-HKICPA-HKVCPEA Seminar focused on the environmental and social challenges of investment in China. The number of environmental and socially oriented funds investing in the region continues to grow. Investors are considering, on a practical level, how to identify and manage the material risks and opportunities in a dynamic environment such as China.

Yeung Hauman, who has worked for a private equity fund in China, spoke about a wide range of environmentally and socially responsible investments. Key topics included:

  • Realistic criteria to identify investment opportunities in China;
  • Concrete ways to address extra-financial issues in the local context; and
  • Case studies on the application of environmental factors to appraise potential sustainable investments.

In China, investors are grappling with a range of thematic issues including legislation, climate change, clean-tech, alternative energy, and disclosure. The seminar offered practical advice and insights on how to develop, manage and profit from effective investment strategies.
