Event Summary

ASrIA’s new Philanthropic Investment Portal was launched October 30, 2009. To mark the occasion, ASrIA invited its members and others to a well-attended launch event at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club (FCC) in Hong Kong.

The attendees represented a broad range of institutions including foundations, family offices, investment managers, corporations, NGOs and other civil society organizations.

The guests were welcomed by ASrIA Vice Chair Alexandra Tracy, who introduced ASrIA Executive Director Wai-Shin Chan.

Wai-Shin Chan reminded the audience of ASrIA’s strong commitment to sustainable and socially responsible investing, and in this context the importance that ASrIA places on encouraging community investing, and on serving as a forum for dialogue between investors and other members of civil society.

Jane Sadler, the lead consultant to ASrIA on the Philanthropic Investment project, then briefed attendees on the new Philanthropic Investing portal, highlighting the key topics covered in its five main sections – Philanthropic Investment, Philanthropic Journey, Funding, Key Advice and Resources.

Jane’s briefing was followed by an active Q&A session and an opportunity for networking. A number of the NGO representatives present commented that they hope the new portal will help them to better understand the decision-making process engaged in by investors when engaging in philanthropy.

We encourage you to visit ASrIA’s new Philanthropic Investing Portal and then contact us with your comments, including suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
