Speaker Biographies

Thiemo Lang, PhD
Senior Portfolio Manager, SAM
Thiemo Lang is a Senior Portfolio Manager and responsible for SAM’s portfolio management activities for the theme product area. After working as a development engineer at Siemens in Munich in 1999, he first became Technology Analyst and then Portfolio Manager at the Activest (HypoVereinsbank) in Munich. Alongside the (co-)management of various mutual and institutional funds, he was responsible for the conception and the launch of the "Activest Lux NanoTech". From 2005 he was Senior Portfolio Manager of the Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch et Cie. technology fund called “Infology”, where he had a particular focus on companies in the fields of energy technologies and new materials. He earned a Diploma of Electronics from the University of Stuttgart and a PhD in Optics/Photonics from the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble.

Dr. John Cheng,
Manager, CLP Research Institute
Dr. John W M Cheng received his B.Eng. (Sask.), M.Eng. (McGill) and PH.D. (McGill) in Canada. His work experience spans across different disciplines including large-scale power system controls, military equipment testing, railroad operations and low carbon technology research and development.
His current research interests include load signature analysis, smart grid applications, wind and solar resource assessment, intelligent buildings, equipment health monitoring, optimization and simulation techniques. John is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, a member of HKIE, IEEE and CIGRE.
