DISCUSSION WITH JAMES MUIR, ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

THURSDAY 29TH MAY, 2003, 4-6 P.M.

HONG KONG LAND PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT CENTRE, ROOM 219 JARDINE HOUSE (FOOTBRIDGE LEVEL) CENTRAL, HONG KONG
(With thanks to Rabobank for organising the location)

Hong Kong based members and friends,

In August 2002, Environmental Resource Management (ERM) released 'Missing Out?', Hong Kong's first assessment of corporate sustainability reporting which analysed the levels of disclosure and standard of reporting on environmental and social issues by Hang Seng Index companies. It can be accessed at http://www.erm.com/erm/news.nsf/ba0a2c5791e35066852569430050dce4/775d1117f5fcdcdb80256c1300577565?OpenDocument .

ERM found that the majority of Hang Seng companies are not included in global SRI investment indexes, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and FTSE4Good, and those that are included run the risk of being removed if their reporting practices do not improve. Since the release of Missing Out, there have been a number of developments in sustainability reporting in Hong Kong, regionally and internationally.

ASrIA is organising a briefing by James Muir,Senior Consultant of ERM, who will discuss  the findings of the research over the last year and will facilitate a  discussion regarding the importance of disclosure of non-financial issues by  Hong Kong companies.

The briefing will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday 29th May and will close at 6:00pm at the latest. Please RSVP to this email (lmitchell@asria.org) to let me know if you are able to attend. Non-ASrIA members who wish to attend will be charged HK$200. Look forward to seeing you there.

Best Regards,
Louisa
