Madeleine Lee

Madeleine Lee, CFA, 39, has more than 16 years' experience as an investment manager of public and private equities, during which she worked for Government of Singapore Investment Corporation; Chase Manhattan Bank, Morgan Grenfell Investment Asia. After being awarded Fund Manager of the Year in 1996, she went on to become Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Commerzbank Asset Management Asia Ltd.

In November 1999, she founded bowtieAsia pte ltd, a company which specializes in presenting high quality private equity deals in the infocomm technology and biotech sector to its investor base of institutional and private investors and was the first in Asia to do this by exploiting the use of an on-line platform. In the 2 years since establishment, the company has processed more than 300 business proposals and shown about two dozen to institutional and angel investors. In 2001, she was awarded the inaugural Mont Blanc Businesswomen Award for the bowtieAsia concept.

Since 2002, Madeleine has focused on a new venture, Athenaeum Fund Management Ltd, an alternative investment manager of Asian Hedge Funds.

She is a Director of Infocomm Investment Pte Ltd (investment subsidiary of IDA); having been a consultant to the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). She was also appointed by MAS to the Financial Sector Review Committee on the Liberalisation of the Stockbroking Industry in 1997; and the Business Development Review Group for the Merged Exchange in 1998.

She serves on the Exco of UNIFEM Singapore (United Nations Development Fund for Women) for whom she helped launch the United Global UNIFEM Fund, Asia’s first ethical fund. She is also on the Finance and Endowment committees of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.(SSO) and Honorary Treasurer of International Women’s Forum (IWF) in Singapore.

Madeleine has a BA (honours) in Economics and Accounting and an MBA in Finance from UK. She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). She has been invited to numerous public speaking engagement on equity investing and venture capital; as well been panelist on matters involving the empowerment of women and children and socially responsible investing. She was also selected as a fellow in the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship in 2002.

Madeleine is married to Kenneth Tan, a Senior Counsel and they have 2 sons, aged 7 and 1. In her spare time, she runs, does yoga and taichi and writes poetry.
