Kai Nargolwala is the Chairman, Wholesale Bank (Corporate & Institutional Banking and Global Markets) and Group Executive Director (GED) Governance Asia.

As Chairman of the Wholesale Bank, Kai focuses his time in driving business strategy and performance; and developing the Bank’s relationship with key corporate and institutional clients globally.

As GED Governance Asia, Kai provides leadership and governance to Country Managers in Asia including India. He works with Country Managers to develop strategy, drive stronger regulatory and government relations, address governance issues and monitor performance at a country level. Kai also has responsibility in driving SCB's strategic merger and acquisition activities in Asia.

Kai joined Standard Chartered in 1998 and was appointed to the Board on 7 May 1999.

Before joining the Bank, Kai had worked in Bank of America for nineteen years. He was latterly their Group Executive Vice President; Head of Asia Wholesale Banking Group, headquartered in Hong Kong. He was also a member of the Senior Management Council of the Bank.

Prior to that, he was with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in London where he practised as a Chartered Accountant.

Kai is also a Director of the Asia Pacific Region of Visa International Service Association.

Kai was born in India in 1950 and is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and the United States of America. He has a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Delhi, India and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

He resides with his wife Aparna, in Singapore.
