Paul is the Chief Executive of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund which was established in 2003 for the purpose of partially funding the New Zealand universal superannuation benefit paid to all retired citizens.
The Fund commenced its investment operations in October 2003 with a transfer of NZ$2.4 billion from general revenue. Its vale had grown to NZ$4 billion by June 2004 and with daily cash flow averaging $6 million per day, plus investment earnings, it is expected to reach $100 billion by 2024 when contributions will cease.
Prior to taking up this role in March 2003, Paul was chief executive of the A$4.5 billion Superannuation Trust of Australia based in Melbourne. Paul returned to New Zealand after 16 years in Australia to take up this role.
He holds a BA, Grad. Dip. Bus. Admin and is an Associate of the Securities Institute of Australia.
