Mr. Krause is responsible for developing and executing IFC’s investment and technical assistance program to support financial market development in East Asia and the Pacific. IFC, the private-sector development arm of the World Bank Group, holds over $600 million of direct equity investments in and loans to approximately 35 financial institutions in East Asia. IFC’s financial sector investments include commercial banking, life insurance, housing finance, leasing, asset management, and microfinance. In 2003, IFC expects to invest over $300 million in East Asia’s financial sector.
Mr. Krause has worked in Asia since 1995, managing new investments and financial restructurings in China, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Krause pioneered IFC’s investment and technical assistance program in Russia’s financial sector. He began his career with IFC in 1989 as a Financial Officer in IFC’s Treasury Department.
Prior to joining IFC, Mr. Krause was an International Economist with the U.S. Treasury Department where he worked on international debt strategy, including the launch of the Brady Bonds. He is a Certified Public Accountant, and holds a B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and an M.A. in International Economics from The Johns Hopkins University. He resides with his family in Hong Kong.
