Role of the Secretary General
The Secretary General works with the Board of 3iG in defining the direction of the organization and is responsible for making sure that 3iG develops and delivers a world class offering of products and services that allows it to build and create value for a group of faith investment groups from different faith traditions.
Responsibilities of the Secretary General
Supports the articulation of faith and ethical perspectives in socially responsible investment.
- Builds on the solid relationships that already exist in the 3iG community
- Is creative in imagining and proposing new opportunities
- Represents 3iG in various fora and energetically spreads the message of 3iG
- Acts as spokesperson for 3iG
Develops and facilitates institutional growth
- Identifies and actively recruits new members
- Identifies and attracts potential new institutional partners and partnerships
- Works with 3iG constituencies to build on the work that has been done to develop best practices in faith consistent investing.
- With the help of members and partners develops 3iG products and services
- Works closely with the Board on fund raising
- Committed to travel to respond the needs of the organization
Implements 3iG organizational policies
- Works closely with the Executive committee to implement and continually update the strategic plan
- Serves ex-officio on Governing Board and Governing Board Committees
- Works with the Advisory members to engage their skills and experience to support of 3iG activities
Directs and oversees administrative affairs and programs of the organization
- Oversees hiring, supervision and evaluation of staff
- Prepares budget and administers accounts: provides regular financial reports
- Develops and maintains administrative policies and procedures
- Oversees the communication plan of 3iG
- Supervises the maintenance of the website and the 3iG database
Reports regularly to the Executive committee and to the Board of Directors
Qualifications
Essential qualifications
- Strong commitment to economic and social justice
- Strong oral and writing skills in English
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in computer skills, including financial accounting
Desirable qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years full-time work experience in increasingly responsible positions
- Knowledge and familiarity with issues of social responsible investment and/or faith consistent investment
- Experience representing an organization in meetings and coalitions
- Experience working in coalitions of diverse organizations; experience in working with faith communities particularly helpful
- Experience with media outreach
- Experience with fundraising from foundations, organizations, and/or individuals
- Experience as a government relations, policy and/or grassroots organizing staff person of a non-profit organization, religious denomination/church, or other organization
- Fluency in languages other than English
