1st Middle East Corporate Social Responsibility Summit Date: 25-27 April 2004 Event Overview Corporate Social Responsibility Under the patronage of H. H. General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister The 1st Middle East Forum on 'Corporate Social Responsibility', in association with Shell ME and supported by the Dubai Development and Investment Authority (DDIA) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to raise awareness about the importance of CSR for the region's growth and long-term development. Defence Minister The forum brings together the region's business leaders, government officials and NGOs, to discuss the necessity and benefits of implementing CSR as well as setting out a framework to do so. The forum will examine the emerging liability and accountability issues through various standards and regulations and suggest ways in which companies in the region can improve their social, ethical and environmental performance thereby increasing brand awareness, customer loyalty and employee retention. The Business Case For CSR Defence Minister Today's business leaders are inundated with new risks and challenges to their corporate standing and reputation. Fair or not, big businesses are being called to justify their approach to a growing array of social, environmental and economic concerns.
