Business & Human Rights - A Study Of Corporate Risk In Hong Kong A briefing for Business and NGO's Date: 11 July 2004 Saturday 10.30 am to 12.30 pm (Tea and coffee served from 10:00 am) The Corporate Environmental Governance Programme (CEGP) at the University of Hong Kong has recently conducted research relating to Hong Kong companies and their subsidiaries with investments and operations in various countries where allegations of human rights violations exist. The aim is to survey the extent to which Hong Kong companies that do business in such countries are vulnerable to risks of reputation damage associated with human rights violations. Results indicate that many Hong Kong companies have investments, operations and supply chain links in several countries leading to potential risks. This informal seminar will present the findings of the research and examine policies, systems and assurance mechanisms that, if properly enforced, can protect a company’s reputation. Ultimately by doing so we hope to raise awareness of the issue of Business and Human Rights and the risks involved with doing business in certain countries. Representatives of Hong Kong companies included in our study, NGO's, media and other interested parties are expected to attend. You are invited to this seminar. Speakers: Richard Welford Corporate Environmental Governance Programme There will be an open discussion after the final speaker There is no charge for the seminar but you are requested to register your attendance in advance by contacting: Jonathan Hills
