Pension provision has now risen to the top of the agenda, not only in continental Europe, where painful reforms have been slowly progressing, but particularly in the UK, where until recently it had been one of the jewels in the UK‘scrown.
Questions to be discussed include:
- Is there such a thing as a risk-free pension investment?
- Who can or should provide guarantees – tax-payers, the financial sector, employers, individuals and what role should the state and the private sector play?
- How will governments meet their pension promises and how can the public be encouraged to save for their old age?
- Where compulsion exists, to what extent has it alleviated pressure on state provision?
- What is the future of collective schemes?
- Consumer education: what needs to be done, and who should do it?
- How have compulsory defined contribution schemes fared? Are the actuarial models adequate?
