Introduction

This will be the twelfth annual meeting of the ICMIF Investment Network, and the first time it has been held in Japan, the second largest financial market in the world. Our Japanese members have been a strong supporter of the Investment Network since it started in 1994. In fact, Zenkyoren hosted the first meeting in London, so it is fitting that the meeting should move to Asia for the first time.

The meeting will take place 25–26 May, 2005 and is hosted by the Japanese Consumers’ Co-operative Union (JCCU), one of the fastest growing insurers in Japan.

The network agenda has been selected by the ICMIF members and as such will be current, relevant, and significant. Topics to be included are as follows:

• Prospect of global economy; and its influence on our asset allocation strategy;
• Asset Liability Management (ALM); how do we invest our capital /surplus money;
• Change in International Accounting Standards (IAS) and its influence on our investment;
• Corporate Governance and Social Responsible Investment (SRI); and
• Alternative investmentsm (Hedge Funds etc.).

There will be round table discussions on the topics most relevant to members, such as asset allocation strategy and asset liability management. If there are still any specific topics which you would like to be discussed or presented, please let us know.

The Investment Network, being limited to ICMIF members, is small enough for everyone to get to know each other and to discuss relevant investment issues on the agenda as well as participating in the social events. We look forward to seeing you all in Japan, renewing old acquaintances and making new ones.
