6th Asia Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption & Production

Date: 10-12 October, 2005
Location: Melbourne, Australia

Delegates from the Asia Pacific Region and those interested in the region's development are invited to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia to confront the challenges of cleaner production and sustainable consumption and encourage the integration of these strategies into government programs and business activity.

The shift to living sustainably in a sustainable economy implies significant changes to our current systems of production and consumption. The Roundtable is primarily focused on understanding this change and gaining insights on how to adapt to it and benefit from it.

Sustainability will drive innovation, in technology, in infrastructure and in social organisation and values. This is of critical importance to governments, which need to respond to the policy challenges. This is vitally important to business in implementing life cycle planning programs to support product innovation and to realize strategic opportunities. This is particularly relevant to our region as it is the fastest developing market on the planet. The path to economic development will not be 'business as usual'.

The Roundtable will bring together leading keynote speakers and researchers to consider the implications for business, policy and strategy, innovation and design, consumption patterns, regional development and education and capacity building.
