Reporting: A Measure of Sustainability - The Amsterdam Global Conference on Sustainability and Transparency

Featuring the public launch of GRI's G3 Guidelines

Date: October 4-6, 2006
Venue: Okura Hotel, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The Greenland icecap is melting faster than was thought possible.  Progress towards global targets to reduce poverty and hunger is off track by far. Growing numbers of people feel more vulnerable and excluded from the benefits of globalization. At the same time, unprecedented developments at the technological, political and market levels offer opportunities to evolve new business strategies and production models.

These are just a few of many examples of headline news about the sustainability of humankind?s impacts on the natural and social environment.  Key questions are; how should organizations understand these trends, what are their options for responding, and how would these affect their clients, investors, employees, and communities?

The forthcoming global conference "REPORTING: A MEASURE OF SUSTAINABILITY" will provide a unique opportunity for one thousand international participants from all over the world to:

  • be present for the launch of the GRI?s ?third generation? sustainability reporting guidelines
  • meet and hear from global thought-leaders on related issues of transparency, accountability and governance, and
  • explore together how sustainability reporting can help organizations improve their contribution to a more sustainable future.

The Global Reporting Initiative and the City of Amsterdam have pleasure in cordially inviting you to participate in this high-level global event, to be held at the Okura Hotel, Amsterdam, on 4-6 October 2006.

The event's 100+ speakers will include global leaders such as former USA Vice-President Al Gore, European Commission Vice-President Margot Wallstrom, Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, the Mayor of Amsterdam, and a range of high-level representatives from government, international organizations, business, academia and civil society.

In addition to providing a first-hand opportunity to learn more about the latest version of the GRI Guidelines, the conference will provide participants with the chance to work in highly focused leadership sessions on the impacts of reporting on capital markets, business performance, emerging markets, community/society, the role of SMEs, the supply chain, and public policy.

Co-hosted by the Mayor and the Council of Aldermen of the City of Amsterdam, the conference will also offer special opportunities to discuss this richly historic city?s sustainability outlook.
