Launch of ASrIA's Carbon Disclosure Report 2007 for Asia ex-Japan

WITH THANKS TO MERRILL LYNCH FOR SPONSORING THE CDP LAUNCH IN HONG KONG

Date:    Tuesday 25th September, 2007
Time:    2:30 - 4:30 pm
Venue: Merrill Lynch Client Center, 15th Floor, Citibank Tower, 3 Garden Road, Central, Hong Kong

ASrIA would like to invite you to attend the official launch of this year's Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Report for Asia ex-Japan. For the 2007 report, 166 leading Asian companies were surveyed concerning their policies on climate change and carbon emissions. The responses offer fresh insights into the emerging competition between Asian governments and corporates on carbon trends which will affect the materiality of climate change for companies and investors. Key trends to be discussed are:

  • At the country level, leading Korean companies are investing in new technology and products to address climate change issues while Indian corporates are increasing their response rates
  • This year's report includes valuable new disclosures from bellwether companies such as Swire Pacific and ICBC
  • Asian tech companies are working on sector initiatives to reduce high impact PFC emissions and develop energy efficient products
  • With a few notable exceptions, Asia's financial and utilities sectors lag global reporting norms

ASrIA's CDP work is based on an information request which was sent to a sample of 166 companies covering ten Asian countries. The CDP is a global disclosure initiative which has invited institutional investors over five consecutive years (2003 - 2007) to sign a single global request for disclosure of information regarding greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In doing so, it has created one of the largest ever collaborations of global institutional investment capital - at $41 trillion of assets under in 2007. The information requests have historically been sent to the largest global companies by market capitalization. Beginning in 2006, ASrIA has worked to expand the universe of Asian companies receiving the CDP sample.

The briefing will provide the opportunity to hear about the 2007 report findings in detail from ASrIA's Executive Director, Melissa Brown. Speakers from Merrill Lynch will include Joseph Jacobelli, Head of AsiaPac Utilities & Energy Technology Equity Research. Copies of the report will also be available.

The launch will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, 25th September. Attendance will be on a first come first serve basis, with priority registration being given to ASrIA members. Please RSVP if you wish to attend.

This event is free of charge and will include snacks and beverages.
