Reporting has grown rapidly around the world in response to demand from investors and other stakeholders and the increasing relevance of sustainability to overall competitiveness. According to a 2008 survey by KPMG, 80% of the Fortune 250 companies produce a sustainability report. Closer to home, reporting has exploded in China with over 600 companies reporting on their corporate social responsibility in 2009. Further, the government has asked state-owned companies to issue reports and the Shanghai Stock Exchange has introduced related listing requirements. Developments in Hong Kong, however, have proceeded much more slowly. This workshop will convene a range of stakeholders to discuss how different stakeholders could work together to increase reporting in Hong Kong. For companies, it specifically an opportunity to discuss how to gain the most value from reporting and how to work with stakeholders to enhance the value proposition of reporting in Hong Kong. The workshop will be facilitated by Sean Gilbert, who is now responsible for GRI’s activities in China. The morning will start with a short set of presentations followed by discussion groups. The ideas from the groups will be collected for a plenary discussion. The goal will be to make a rough road map of how different partners in Hong Kong can work together to make reporting more of a common practice amongst Hong Kong companies. Participants can engage with other leaders in building a shared vision for reporting and identify new opportunities for advancing sustainability in Hong Kong. It is also an opportunity to engage directly with GRI to shape our work plans for the region. The main conclusions of the meeting will summarized in a brief report with ideas for next steps. Space is limited, so please RSVP quickly. Agenda will include discussion on:
