EU Policies: CSR & Corporate Governance

DG Employment CSR flash newsletter 2004/07

27 October, 2004

The European Commission adopted a Directive about annual accounts. The Directive requires that EU-based listed companies should disclose an annual corporate governance statement as part of their annual report.

The Directive says that within their corporate governance statement companies may also provide an analysis of environmental and social aspects necessary to understand their development, performance and position.

While not mandating reporting on CSR issues, the Directive recognizes the relevance of environmental and social issues in the context of corporate governance.
