Investor Network on Climate Risk Research Consortium

10 December, 2004

Ceres, WRI

"Questions and Answers for Investors on Climate Risk" -- prepared for the Investor Network on Climate Risk (INCR) Research Consortium by Ceres and the World Resources Institute is released today.

"Questions and Answers for Investors on Climate Risk" aims to provide investors worldwide with information to help them respond to the financial risks and investment opportunities posed by climate change. Questions addressed include:

    * How does climate change create risk for the companies in which we invest?
    * In what capacity has financial research assessed climate risk?
    * Is assessing climate risk a fiduciary responsibility?
    * How are investors already addressing this issue?
    * As an investor, where do I start to learn about climate risk?

In 2004, Ceres and the World Resources Institute established the INCR Research Consortium in consultation with institutional investors active in addressing climate risk. This collaborative research and engagement effort will identify and assess potential impacts of climate change on investment portfolios. The goal of the Consortium is to help leading institutional investors understand the financial implications of climate change and use that understanding to integrate climate change risks and opportunities into standard portfolio management practices. The Consortium is organized under the auspices of the Investor Network on Climate Risk that was created in 2003 by U.S. institutional investors managing over $700 billion in assets.
