Chikyuryoku Fund is the first environmental index fund in Japan, which is indexed to KLD Research & Analytics's Global Climate 100 Index. KLD's GC100 and the Chikyuryoku fund focus on including leaders in three climate-related themes: renewable energy, clean tech and efficiency, and future fuels, spanning from natural gas to hydrogen. The index covers the complete value chain ranging from equipment and systems providers and the suppliers of electricity generated using that equipment, to those companies that have demonstrated a strategic position by making large subscription of to energy sourced from renewables on the demand side. The GC100 uses a straight equal-weighting strategy, where both the smaller pure-play companies as well as the larger ones are equally discounted, aiming to create a level playing field bringing up the visibility of some of these smaller companies in the index.
