Notes on the ASrIA Sponsors Panel
This session was chaired by SRI commentator and adviser Robert Rosen. Speakers
comprised:
Barbara Krumsiek, CEO, Calvert
Paul Moody, head of business development for Morley Fund Management
Emma Hunt, senior analyst with Friends Ivory & Sime
Mark Campanale, investment marketing manager for SRI with AMP Henderson Global
Investors.
Barbara Krumsiek began by noting that "sensitivity is paramount in terms of how one goes about SRI or even defining SRI.." Events in the US of the past few months have shown "we have to be terribly mindful of our impacts on each other….. you can be a superpower but you've got to be super aware and super sensitive as well".
Krumsiek said of Calvert that "we do want to apply our analytical principles in a global context as we must …and we do work hard to be sensitive to country contexts…it is very important to us to have access to additional research". She noted Calvert did invest in some companies in the region, including Hong Kong's MTR. She also encouraged companies present at the conference to become signatories to the UN Global Impact and encouraging others to sign.
Emma Hunt and Paul Moody spoke of the screening strategies used by their respective companies, with Moody emphasising the need for good local-level research. Mark Campanale announced the launch by AMP Henderson of an SRI fund in Hong Kong by the end of the year.
