Just recieved from a contact of Tessa (19 4 2001)
'Have you heard the great news of the drug companies dropping
their legal action against the S.A. g'ment from supplying cheaper
non-patented drugs?
What a step forward. If this isn't an amazing example of Intn successfully
pressure pushing for large corporations to be more Socially Responsible
I don't know what is. Let's hope the S.A. g'ment will live up to
their responsibilities and with this example cheaper drugs can be
sold throughout the world(ideal).
I must point out that Medecin Sans Frontieres (MSF) has
been detrimental in rallying pressure against these drug companies.
Check out MSF's website: www.msf.org.
It has been a long fight.
Just on the news today 3 SR issues: 1) Slavery in chocolate plantations
2)Business Bush, Kyoto dilemma and what Friends of Earth has done
3)Drug companies capitulation and MSF.
SR is spreading!! It is good to see what charities like MSF, Friends
of the Earth and Green Peace are understanding about shareholders
power.'
