Friends Ivory backs
better forests
9 Apr 2001
Friends Ivory & Sime (FI&S) has become the first investment
manager to sign up in support of the WWF's campaign to get timber
sourced from well-managed forests.
FI&S is developing
its credentials as a leading socially responsible investor and
has committed itself to lobby corporates where it holds shares
to buy timber sensitively. Initially, FI&S will concentrate
its attentions on the construction sector.
FI&S will become part of the WWF 95+ timber campaign, which
has also signed up such corporates as B&Q, Wickes, Laing,
Tesco and Railtrack to support the campaign.
WWF was formerly known
as the World Wildlife Fund. Its attitude towards the corporate
sector has become more sophisticated under the lead of full-time
chief executive Robert Napier, who used to run Redland, the construction
materials group .
