Grameen Bank share Gandhi Peace Prize
<<Mandela, Grameen Bank share Gandhi Peace Prize.htm>>
Greetings!
We wanted to let you
know that the Grameen Bank and Nelson Mandela were joint recipients
of the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2000, India's highest honor, given
out earlier this year. The Grameen Bank, which makes loans to more
than 2.3 million poor in Bangladesh, was founded by Calvert World
Values
Fund Board member Muhammad Yunus in 1976. The judges unanimously
selected these two winners from more than 90 entrants because they
best exemplified "working selflessly toward social, economic
and political transformation
through nonviolence and other Gandhian means." We just found
out this exciting news and wanted to share this recognition for
microcredit and lending with you.
