Reports - SRI In Asian Markets: Singapore
Research by: Carrie Johnson & Sophie Pritchard,
PAIA Consulting
Project Manager:
David St. Maur Sheil
Published in time for ASrIA's Third International Conference, 15-16
July in Singapore, this survey is a must for anyone serious about developing
SRI in the country. As far as we know it is the first survey of its
kind.
Key findings include:
- Singapore has good potential for SRI with the third highest per
capita income level in Asia and its competitive position as an Asian
financial hub.
- At present, SRI products are available, but the total fund size
is small and marketing of these funds has been limited.
- There is currently a low level of awareness of SRI funds, especially
amongst the public. However, there is a growing activism towards the
principles that underlie SRI.
- With appropriate education and awareness raising measures there
is considerable potential to build a market for SRI funds in Singapore.
- In Singapore more than in many countries, the government's stance
on SRI will be influential to its development.
