Verité Report: Verification in Trade and Ethics This is a recent report from Verité outlining findings from a multi-year effort they have undertaken in India with their long-term local institutional partner, the Association for Stimulating Know-How (ASK). The "multi-stakeholder rapid assessment" brought together businesses, government, NGOs and trade unions to gather information and develop next steps for dealing with the serious labor and environmental, health and safety problems in Information and Communications Technology workplaces in India. Verité has recently presented this report to a gathering of social responsibility staff from the IT industry, and are currently planning their follow up on the e-waste findings specifically. In response to increasing concern about labor and environmental conditions in IT workplaces they at Verité have developed and are implementing approaches to help IT companies understand and respond to working conditions in their supply chains, much as they have for the past ten years in the apparel, footwear and toy industries. They have interacted both with US and European EICC/GeSI members, with their US-, Taiwan- and Malaysia-based OEM suppliers, and with factories in India and China. Media contact: Daniel Viederman |
